The medicine Wheel
The medicine wheel represents the american indian spirituality. The medicine Wheel is a symbol of an individual journey which we must find. The Wheel shows the four cardinal Directons and these can also be noted as the four sacred colours. The circle represents the circle of life and the central part of the circle is the Eternal flame and can be shown through the Eagle which flies East. This symbol is a vital part of strength, endurance and vision. An integral part of Cherokee unity.
The medicine wheel can be represented by the four main totems of bear, the buffalo, the eagle and the mouse.
The compononents of animal aid is as follows.
The bear can mean a general teaching to slow down and reserve our energy, our answers are often no further than our own consciousness. The bear means that we should try to achieve new heights, the animal is a good climber and in its totem form it tries to show that. Bears also love honey and try to show us to appreciate the sweeter parts of life.
The buffalo represents abundance. Its sheer size is a clear meaning of plenty. It can mean grounding and honouring self. The buffalo shows that carving a path can mean plenty. If you keep grounded and try to get something then attainment can come. Do not try to be complacent and if the buffalo itself is complacent then it does not move forward. The buffalo is the spirit keeper of the northern direction of the earth quadrent of the medicine wheel.
The eagle is a bringer of messages. It means spirituality and balance. The eagle can show new heights, visionary, strength and control. Majestic and a wonderous bird. As a totem the eagle can fly high in the sky or swoop down, it is a strong medicine show. The bird which can be a fantastic messenger as it can see tiny creatures and prey.
