Home circle held 26th July 2016.

A séance of prose and verse.

A séance is of interest to many of the experienced members who attend because of its unpredictable nature.  One can not anticipate in any unexplained activity that may or may not be seen.  There are restrictions on what is allowed in to the séance room itself, particular attention is given to the objects that are put into the séance and to the notes made on what actually occurs.

Activity was noted a few minutes into the séance.  Smells were noticed and this was an unexplained occurrence twice in the evening.  The first time was a perfume scent that was notable, it was evidence because of the sudden arrival, the strength and the disappearance of it only a few minutes later.  There was reference to individual people who had passed and messages were given by the medium.  Another sensory experience was claimed in a different smell that came around the room.  The smell was distinct and noted as something that a known person who had passed and who was related to several of the members liked.  Both smells were unexplained as there was nothing inside or outside of the room that could explain them.  The medium spoke about an individual who was involved in mysteries.  A writer and someone who was insistent to talk about an important date that was approaching.  Links were made to one Dame Agatha Christie.  Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie, Lady Mallowan, nee Miller; 15 September 1890 – 12 January 1976 a short story writer, crime novelist and playwright.  A lady in spirit she referenced the importance of her marriage.  The reference is thought to be to that of Archibald “Archie” Christie, CMG, DSO (30 September 1889 – 20 December 1962) who was a British businessman and military officer and from their marriage came a child.  This child is thought to be the link in the message the female spirit gave because her daughter Rosalind Margaret Clarissa Hicks (née Christie; 5 August 1919 – 28 October 2004) was the only child of author Agatha Christie and her first husband Archibald Christie.  After Christie’s death in 1976, she worked to honour her mother’s name and as you will note from the anniversary date for birthday it is only a matter of days from when the séance was held.

The séance was able to see several unexplained lights.  These each lasted for a few seconds and one was accompanied by a loud creak that came from the side of the room.  It was of interest to the séance that the unexplained lights or Orbs were noted after significant validations of links from spirits to individual members.  There was a noted image and links made by the medium to someone thought to be George Gordon Byron (later Noel), 6th Baron Byron, FRS (22 January 1788 – 19 April 1824), commonly known simply as Lord Byron, who was an English poet and a leading figure in the Romantic movement.  Reference was made to July and to anniversaries that he thought important.  In research although neither his anniversary of birthdate or passing matches, there are several notable links that on investigating can be found.  Byron attended Trinity College, Cambridge, intermittently from October 1805 until the month of July 1808, when he received an M.A. degree.  While his anniversary of passing was not a match to the time near to the séance, it was on Friday, 16 July 1824 that Lord Byron FRS was buried in the location that was traditional for that of his family.

Two more writers in spirit were noted that evening by the medium.  It was as the séance went on that a male spirit was seen.  Typewriter was seen in image for him and links were made to someone who is thought to be Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) who was an American novelist, short story writer and journalist.  An anniversary link was spoken of for him and in research it has been found that an anniversary of birth is noted for him in July and only a few days from the séance.

A lady in spirit was seen, her hair shoulder length and the medium gave reference to information later found to be a possible match to that of Elizabeth Barrett Browning (née Moulton-Barrett,; 6 March 1806 – 29 June 1861) who was one of the most prominent English poets of the Victorian era, popular in Britain and the United States during her lifetime.  The lady was seen by the medium several times in the same action and that was reported as her about to take to a desk.  Writing was a passion for the lady in life and a means for moulding a different and more established image of female writers.

It was a séance that was full of information.  Much of the links were made to writers who had a shared interest in the mysteries that they noted in life.  They were frank and honest writers who all were noted for their wit, sense of captivation in a scene and for encompassing a period in history.  I am not sure if this was the intention for why these individuals in spirit were noted in the same séance but the shared interest and achievements in life did mean that the link was notable.  Miller was said several times over by the medium and as the séance progressed it was understood why.  Possible explanation could be in the fact both Dame Agatha Christie previously had the surname of Miller and later in the evening Ernest Hemingway had the Miller in his name.
