It is interesting to note evidence of unexplained activity in a setting such as that of a physical séance as it is an objective and checked platform from which to base any explanations and theory.
A séance itself is attended, if closed, by members who will have experience of the type of evidence that maybe seen in an investigation. Members will observe any notable activity, notes will be made and any unexplained incidents researched after the séance.
The séance started in a low lit, enclosed area. The lighting is important in a séance as it is clearer to note any visual activity such as Orbs, unexplained round disks of often blue colour in a low lit setting. It was within the first half of the séance investigation that there was evidence of a smell in the room. There was an extremely individual scent that brought tears to the eyes of one sitter as she recognised and claimed it as the exact smell of her grandmother who had passed last year. A perfume combined with another smell, it was distinct and not something that many people would or reasonably could know about. The smell lasted for a few minutes, I would say two to three minutes, then there was a message from the medium of a lady with information for the same sitter who had recognised her grandmother’s scent. The individual evidence was of interest because of the smell, it was not one perfume or another. It as evidence was useful because it appeared quickly and then after a two to three minutes could not be depicted again. Any smell would often have thought to leave a trace but with no evidence of it the incident was one to be noted. The message was given and information within was validated by the sitter.
Orbs were seen in the séance and this was as an unexplained blue light but there was only one and it was seen by one of the sitter’s faces. Knocks were heard, twice before and once after the Orb was noted. There was a reference made by the medium to a man of comedy. The man was someone who liked to be early for occasions, and claimed to be early for his own anniversary and he made a reference to being early for a funeral. He was indicated to by reference to how he looked, information came from him by the name of Eric. It is thought that John Eric Bartholomew, OBE (14 May 1926 – 28 May 1984), known by his stage name Eric Morecambe, was the male spirit in the séance. A comedian who loved to laugh, he was known for his work with Ernie Wise and they formed the award-winning double act Morecambe and Wise. The partnership lasted from 1941 and this was until Morecambe’s death in 1984. In the séance reference was made to his tripping over his own feet and he asked to be mentioned. To form an identity Morecambe took his stage name from his home town, the seaside resort of Morecambe.
It was after a few minutes that a loving spirit was talked about. An individual who lived with a sense of fairness and wrote many works. A loving sense for his children came in to the information link and a knowledge of how events could shape the opinions of many minds through literature. The male spirit referred to the love for literature joining multiple minds, be they over the distance of many miles, many men may differ in locations but could be brought to the same opinion over the perusal of the same literary work. It is thought that the spirit in the séance was William Shakespeare (26 April 1564 (baptised) – 23 April 1616) he was an English poet, an actor, a playwright and widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. He is thought to be the world’s pre-eminent dramatist. In the séance he was loving the medium referred to his caring nature and often called England’s national poet many of his poems do refer to a world viewed through a heart felt response to it. Shakespeare wrote many works, including collaborations, approximately 38 plays, 154 sonnets and two long narrative poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language, are performed more often than those of any other playwright and he is one of the most well studied people in history.
Born and brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire at the age of 18, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. Children were mentioned by the male spirit as a cause for much happiness and achievement. A natural desire for many men in life was to have children, so as a total sum of his efforts and individual spirit in life may live on. It was between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor and writer. He became part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, later known as the King’s Men. It is suggested that he retired to Stratford around 1613, at age 49, where he passed away three years later. Only few records of Shakespeare’s private life survive. It was of interest that the medium indicated that the two male spirits were seen as side by side. Two men from two different ages but both had the link to an appreciation of what could be achieved with comedy.
A séance of unexplained activity, evidence and reference, the spirits’ links to anniversary dates were validated. One of the spirit’s reference to being early linked with that of the evidence and the second spirit had anniversary links that were validated. An unexplained smell was noted before a personal message. The incident was somewhat thought provoking. The comedy pair of Eric Morecame and William Shakespeare was something that while not expected was explained through a mutual love of comedy. It was an interesting investigation, one that suggested a combined interest could bring two different people into one séance.
