Home circle held on 6th October 2015.

Notes on a physical séance.

The séance began with members sat in the already prepared room.  Members sat with an aim to looking at any unexplained activity.  It was quiet at first, nothing was noted until about a ten minutes had passed into the physical séance.  It was collectively asked if there were any spirits in the room could some form of notable physical action take place.  It was at that time there was a loud knock on the table.  It was an audible sound that all could hear in the séance.  As the table is located in the central position of the room it was a good point from which everyone could verify that the sound had come.

A few minutes later and there was another form of physical activity as one of the members noticed small circular round lights which appeared to be moving across the walls and ceiling.  This was interesting as the lights lasted for a few seconds, each long enough for one to be able to detect colour, that the small lights also known as Orbs seemed to actively move across a surface and then disappear from view.  The room had been checked before the séance as had all sitters and there was no explanation for a reason as to how the lights may have been seen or from where they had come.

The medium spoke about noticing three spirits.  The female who had stepped forward had been talked about already by a male colleague of hers, a man who was known for his witty style of comedy talked of a lady who he had worked with on numerous occasions.  An actress, a loving lady and a wonder to the stage and screen.  Someone who had something she wanted to say to the séance, she was an actress in life known for her sense of female charms.

Hattie Jacques (born Josephine Edwina Jaques 7 February 1922 – 6 October 1980) she was an English comedy actress of stage, screen and radio.  Best known as a regular of films, where she typically played strict, no-nonsense roles, but was also a prolific television and radio performer.  In the séance the lady in spirit was keen to talk of a recent passing in anniversary for her and another anniversary but that of a birth for her child.  Actually having said my child’s birthday is coming soon, in life Hattie Jacques does have a child who has a birthday soon and was born on 12 October 1956.

In 1944 Hattie Jacques started her career with an appearance at the Players’ Theatre in London, but came to national prominence through her appearances on three highly popular radio series on the BBC, these were with Tommy Handley on It’s That Man Again; with ventriloquist Peter Brough on Educating Archie; and then with Tony Hancock on Hancock’s Half Hour.   In the séance the medium kept referring to a somewhat vivid looking doll like puppet something similar to that of which a ventriloquist would use, later on in the séance the link name of Archie was mentioned several times but these two references were not put with each other until this piece of researched information was found about Peter Brough and the name link fitted.  After the Second World War Jacques made her cinematic debut in Green for Danger, in which she had a brief role and in the séance reference was made to her acting on the big screen.  From 1958 to 1974 Hattie Jacques appeared in 14 Carry On films, playing various roles including the formidable hospital matron and it is believed that the first male spirit who talked about her before she stepped into the physical séance was a colleague from one of these films.  Information and appearance of the male spirit first to speak does match with someone called Sid James who was an actor and seemingly well known to Hattie Jacques.  On television Hattie Jacques had a long professional partnership with Eric Sykes, with whom she co-starred in his long-running series Sykes and Sykes and a…. The role endeared her to the public and the two became loved figures of British television.

Other physical activity which was noted and unexplained in the physical séance was a strong smell of perfume.  The fragrance was noted by members of the séance for a few minutes before it seemed to completely leave the room without a trace.  The medium had just finished speaking about the female spirit and linking to her when the fragrance activity had been noted.  The anniversary was once again mentioned for Hattie Jacques and it is of interest that the anniversary for Hattie’s passing was the actual day of when the investigation into a physical séance sat.

The medium linked to a male spirit and gave information about someone named or known by the nickname Roddy.  Roderick Andrew Anthony Jude “Roddy” McDowall (17 September 1928 – 3 October 1998) was an English born American actor, he was a photographer, film director and voice artist.  In the séance it is thought that he is the male spirit seen in the séance and the spirit connected to an anniversary of passing which as with Hattie Jacques this anniversary would have been commemorated only a few days from that of when the séance was held.

Sir Norman Joseph Wisdom, OBE (4 February 1915 – 4 October 2010) was an English actor, he was a widely known of comedian, and a singer who also wrote songs.  He was the final spirit that the medium stated as seeing in the séance.  A male who brought a lot of laughter and was linked to in that of the last séance.  Indeed in the last blog Sir Norman Wisdom was actually referenced and noted.  He was best known for a series of comedy films produced between 1953 and 1966 featuring his hapless onscreen role of Norman Pitkin and this was mentioned as a link in the séance.  It is thought that this was the comedian the medium spoke of, referred to and was able to link with in the séance.  The information from him about an anniversary, personal appearance and colleagues in the comedy industry all seemed to later identify with Sir Norman Wisdom.  In life Sir Wisdom gained celebrity status in lands as far apart as Iran, South America, and many Eastern Bloc countries, particularly in Albania.

The man in spirit, a comedian who made the medium laugh as she spoke about him referenced his image as a clown like figure again but he was politely insistent that he be mentioned as having been in this physical séance.  Sir Norman Wisdom in life raised funds for charities, he toured Australia and South Africa.  After the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, a hospice was actually named in his honour and in 1995 he was given the Freedom of the City of London and of Tirana.  No mention was made by the spirit again for titles but it is fact that in the same year as receiving a Freedom of the City of London and Tirana he received an OBE.

It was a physical séance that linked several individuals because of a close connection to that of anniversaries in birth or passing.  One spirit was mentioned despite having been reference matched and focus of attention of another blog.  All three spirits who were referred to had acting careers and were arguably connected through a sense of comedy.

One interesting, enjoyable physical séance where unexplained activity was noted and members observed links to three different spirits.
