When one sits in any type of investigation into spirit it can be difficult to classify the evidence. There are many subjective influences which have to be considered and as much as is possible every part of the séance has to be objectively viewed. The séance itself has to be held in a cleared, checked room which has been set out with particular items. The checks and preparation for a physical séance are important as activity can occur throughout and any evidence has to be fully interpreted or explained in response to the investigation into claimed spirit presence.
It is important for any activity to be noted, questioned and investigated. The physical séance has a process of members sitting in a circular position, the séance has to be opened and closed with a medium in situ. There are items which will have been positioned in full view of members.
At the beginning of the physical séance there was a lot of attention on the temperature which seemed to lower quite quickly from that of what it had been only minutes before. The medium referred to two male spirits, one who had been a director in life but also oddly one who knew how to be a comedian. As the medium spoke there were a lot of noises along the inside walls of where we were sat in the séance. The noises went off in an odd series of taps as though there was a pattern to it. There were claims and what appeared to be little lights also known as orbs. These unexplained balls of light were visible to the séance for a few minutes and they were seen around the sitters. The medium continued to speak about the spirits of two male individuals, the first who was known by Jefferson. He was a man who had liberty linked to what he had done, to what he had achieved and how he believed life should be lived throughout nations.
Thomas Jefferson (April 13 [O.S. April 2] 1743 – July 4, 1826) was known and linked to the name American Founding Father, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776) and the third President of the United States (1801–1809). It is thought that according to information referred to by the medium through the evening that this gentleman was the man being talked of in the séance. The medium told of Jefferson as someone who was intrigued by elements of life and someone who from childhood had a lot of questions about what things were and why actions were perceived as they were, he was an ardent proponent of democracy and embraced the principles of republicanism and the rights of the individual with worldwide influence. At the beginning of the American Revolution, he served in the Continental Congress, representing Virginia, he also served as a wartime Governor of Virginia (1779–1781). The séance saw the medium talking about the male spirit Jefferson as someone who was quiet, contemplative and admired the potential of what could be. In May 1785, he became the United States Minister to France and later he was the first United States Secretary of State (1790–1793) serving under President George Washington. He stood in opposition to Alexander Hamilton’s Federalism, Jefferson and his close friend, James Madison, organized the Democratic-Republican Party, and later resigned from Washington’s cabinet. It was that as elected Vice President in 1796 in the administration of John Adams, Jefferson opposed Adams, and with Madison secretly wrote the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions, which attempted to nullify the Alien and Sedition Acts noted in historical references.
The séance was all watching as one of the electrical objects in the séance started to act oddly, switching itself on and to a mode which was different to how it should have been when switched on. Around the same moment in time there was a lot of noise activity as it appeared two men were in discussion. The voices could be heard for a short time from a part of the séance where no one was sat. The medium then talked of the next spirit, a director and comedian. He was a talent. A funny man who knew how to immortalise the laughter. His sense of light heartedness was not always something that he appreciated and he could not switch it on or off, he had to build up to it.
It is interesting because as information was referred to, research has shown that it does link with that of Eric Sykes CBE (4 May 1923 – 4 July 2012) who was someone who managed to blend both being a director and comedian. He was an English radio, television and film writer, actor and director whose performing career spanned more than 50 years. In the séance this man was alluded to, he was talked about by the medium at length and there was notable, investigated physical activity which occurred around the time that he was mentioned. Eric Sykes frequently wrote for and/or performed with many other leading comedy performers and writers of the period, this comedy link was significant as the medium said it was a part of his life that he was happy about, his work with comedians including Tony Hancock, Spike Milligan, Tommy Cooper, John Antrobus, Johnny Speight and Peter Sellers. Sykes first came to prominence through his many radio credits as a writer and actor in the 1950s, it is written that he is most notable through his collaboration on The Goon Show scripts. Eric became a TV star in his own right in the early 1960s when he appeared with Hattie Jacques in several popular BBC comedy television series.
The people who were claimed in spirit have no traditional connection, one would not think of the two as linked but it is of interest that a part of their anniversary of passing dates 4 July are the same.
The séance was one which had several notable points of activity which could not be explained. The orbs, the voices and the electrical item going off were all evidence which had multiple observers and after the séance even though it was investigated fully there was no practical possibility for why they occurred.
