A closed physical séance sat most recently was attended by members and medium. In this séance there were checked and visible objects in a room that had been prepared for the purpose of the investigation.
Members watched as at the beginning of the séance Orbs, or unexplained lights as they can be described, were seen near to individuals. Noises were heard from the objects that had been put out on to the table. An activity that has been routinely noticed in many of the sat physical séances. The pops and taps came from specific objects and were visibly observed as the sounds were heard.
The medium could give several messages which contained information from spirits to members in the séance. Validated evidence of individuals in spirit came in the form of depictions of physical attributes, spoken speech which referred to particular known phrases and memories.
The medium was able to pass on a particular message from a relative in spirit who spoke of a reference in a physical smell that would be recognisable of them. It was claimed as intriguing because after this spoken information, there was a distinct smell that could be smelt quite strongly for several minutes.
A male spirit was seen and noted. It is believed that the gentleman in spirit, because of what was given in terms of evidence about him, was Frederick Douglass (born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey; c. February 1818 – February 20, 1895) an African-American abolitionist, social reformer, speech giver, writer and man of the people. In the investigation the gentleman spoke quite vocally about brother or brothers in arms and his belief in the power and strength of men who should stand together for the common good and decency of the people. He referred to his belief in how people should look after and out for people. Caring and compassion had to be the way forward because if not then many privileges hard fought and won would be lost and people would be the poorer for it. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, Douglass became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York. In the séance the spirit spoke valiantly and in life he was known as gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writings. In his time, he was described by abolitionists as a living counter-example to slaveholders’ arguments that slaves lacked the intellectual capacity to function as independent individual American citizens. Many northerners at the time had found it hard to believe that such a great orator had once been a slave.
Education and liberty was referenced by the male spirit in the séance and an importance for a mention of the timing and date. Children were noted as the future by the gentleman in the investigation. He told of his experience as a younger person and feeling diminished because of his racial outer appearance, he had a vision but no voice. It was as he became fortunate to discover opportunity that his true potential could unfold and learning gave a voice to the thoughts he had for many years kept inside. After the séance research was made into the significance of the date and it was found on 3rd September in 1838 Frederick Douglass escaped from slavery. Later this month there is a noted event that will be held to recognise and honour his contribution to the liberty that literature and literacy can provide for individuals.
It was a séance that did appear important for a number of reasons. The speech of different spirits was spoken of as relevant for individual sitters and latter as a means of bringing up issues that many felt apt and poignant. Unexplained were the noises and Orbs as after thorough exploration of anything inside or outside of the séance room, nothing could be found as for why those incidents had been noticed.
Please note that the altered font and spacing in the paragraph written up on the gentleman in spirit seen in the séance investigation, Frederick Douglass, appears differently from the rest of the text and consequently before publishing this blog was impossible to alter as to look the same. It has been suggested that this is an unexplained occurrence in itself.
