Notes from an investigation into a trance séance.
Séance investigations are based on what are seen, heard or sensed unexplained activity. Members arrived for the séance in a prepared, low lit room. The objects in the room itself had been chosen for ease of use, i.e slight manipulation of them would result in noise or visual evidence. A séance is often held in a low lit area as it is easier for members to see any unexplained visual phenomena.
It was not long before the séance members noted first activity and this was in the form of information. The medium who was in a trance state referred to a male spirit. Links were made to a Frank and then information was referred to about who this person was in life. Important likes, dislikes, a link to politics and statements all were given in reference to the spirit and the medium went on to speak about this person as someone who loved his country. All the information was used to research who he was and it is believed that Franklin Delano Roosevelt (January 30, 1882 – April 12, 1945), commonly known as FDR, an American statesman and political leader who served as the President of the United States from 1933 to 1945 was the spirit mentioned in the séance.
As the medium talked of the male spirit there were several odd incidents which happened. Many of the members reported a coolness, there was a lot of cracks and noises as if someone was walking in the room but no one was seen. Orbs were noted by those in the room and these were lights seen to appear, move in near to members and then to disappear.
As activity was noted cigarette smoke was smelt in the séance. The members commented on how the smell seemed to appear and this was as the medium spoke of two different spirits. One was a female and one male. Both had a passion for the film and loved people important to them this side of life. The medium referred to a female and linked to a Ruby and a Scarlet, information was indicated as to a boy or man but with the name of Tony and reference information was linked to as to many films she had been in and a lot of laughter was seen around her. The lady was linked to by important dates and an anniversary of a passing. It is believed that Barbara Stanwyck (née Ruby Catherine Stevens; July 16, 1907 – January 20, 1990) was the individual noted in the séance. She was an American actress, was a film and television star, known during her 60-year career as a diverse and versatile professional. Stage sets came into the information links and as the medium talked about her the link was made to a sense of a longing to be a mother. Motherhood was important for her and there was a sense of noted anniversary for a child.
In an interesting piece of evidence Anthony Dion Fay (February 5, 1932 – May 17, 2006) was found to be the little boy of Barbara Stanwyck. In life maternally babies were a difficult issue for Barbara Stanwyck and she adopted Anthony Dion Fay who was reportedly also known as Tony, the name spoken of as important by the female spirit. Not only this but the link went on to refer to today, as this blog is being written, as the anniversary link and the birth date anniversary of Anthony Dion Fay.
There were several links which later interestingly became important pieces of information for the female spirit, as the name Scarlet was linked to but not known as for why. Ruby was the other name and this was the birth name of Barbara Stanwyck but Scarlet came up in research as she one of the many actresses considered for the role of Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind (1939), although she did not receive a screen test.
Two more interesting links came up in that of the cigarette smoke smell in the séance. Research has shown that in 1944, 1982, while filming The Thorn Birds, the inhalation of special-effects smoke on the set may have caused Barbara Stanwyck to contract bronchitis, which was compounded by her cigarette habit; she had been a smoker from age nine until four years before her death. Earlier in the séance the laughing faces of many colleagues were seen around her and the medium linked to other spirits who came in closely with her as friends. In research it has been said that many, many directors, actors and people who worked with Barbara Stanwyck all loved her kindness and ability to be friends with them all.
In the séance there was a male spirit seen both by the medium and a few sightings were noted by members of a handsome, male individual. Humphrey DeForest Bogart (December 25, 1899 – January 14, 1957) was an American screen actor whose performances in such iconic 1940s films noir as The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep and Casablanca earned him the link to a most known cultural icon. In the séance the medium referred to the male spirit as someone who loved to act, he knew it well and he loved to be a persona people knew little about because it was up to him to tell people what they needed to known through films. Ideas were there on the script but the actor is able to tell a story to an audience in a real life encounter and as this was said the spirit referred to a magical love of the movies. In the séance the actor in spirit asked for his little boy to be noted, he had an anniversary, he said not passed by long ago. The spirit talked about being a father to children and a loved sense of pride that went with it.
Bogart became a first-time father at age 49 when Bacall gave birth to one Stephen Humphrey Bogart on January 6, 1949, during the filming of Tokyo Joe. Research has shown that the name was drawn from Bogart’s character’s nickname in To Have and Have Not, “Steve”. Stephen would go on to become an author and biographer, and it was that he later hosted a television special about his father on Turner Classic Movies. Three years later the couple’s daughter, Leslie Howard Bogart, would draw her name from someone who was known to the family, Bogart’s friend and The Petrified Forest co-star, British actor Leslie Howard.
A séance of evidence and information. The people who are noted in the séance are important, not just in who they are but what links or research can tell us about them. It is interesting that one of the spirits was a notable politician and that there was another connection as to one of the other spirits who came through in that of an extreme dislike of Barbara Stanwyck to that of the president who was noted in spirit. It is odd that two of the spirit individuals had a difficult relationship because this suggests that there was a separation of them in life but in spirit they both appeared in the same séance moments apart. Barbara Stanwyck had a difficult later relationship with her son but in the séance she asked her for his birth date anniversary to be noted.
The evidence of cigarette smoke was noted by members twice in the séance and two of the spirit individuals who were reported had a link to this habit in life. A séance of a lot of links and activity, it was an important investigation to be a part of and to have been able to note.
