Politics and Literature.

The physical séance is an extraordinary base from which one can objectively note any claims of spirit activity.  Checked and attended by members who have experience of a physical séance, this is a location where unexplained activity may not just be seen, but will be noted and investigated.

At first members sat in silence.  There was no comments on activity for a few minutes into the séance.  It was about twenty minutes after the investigation was opened that the medium began to refer to a spirit of a male in the physical séance.

The temperature in the séance did alter as an icy sense was commented on by the sitters.  As has been noted on previous occasions small lights known as Orbs were seen.  The Orbs were bright and were seen to move in and around where the members were sat without bumping into anyone and seeming to move around objects.  The temperature was extremely cool as the medium talked of a younger sense in the male spirit, a person who was known by literary people and who expressed himself through his bold sentiments about life.  The medium who had been in a trance like state, stopped there and began to refer to another male spirit, someone who wished to be known by the surname of Chamberlain.  Arthur Neville Chamberlain FRS (18 March 1869 – 9 November 1940) was a British Conservative politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom starting May 1937 to May 1940.  The temperature was continuously cool as the medium spoke of the gentleman who had a fondness for speaking on a subject he felt passionately on, he viewed what was happening in politics from where he could observe and note all the alteration.  Chamberlain is known for his appeasement foreign policy, and in particular for his signing of the Munich Agreement of 1938, conceding the German-speaking Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia to Germany.  However, when Adolf Hitler later invaded Poland, the UK declared war on Germany on 3 September 1939, and Chamberlain led Britain through the first eight months of World War II.  It is interesting because in the physical séance there was a lot of noise heard by members, almost as if muted speaking was going on in a part of the séance from where no male sitters were sat.  Calm and easily it seemed the male spirit wished to speak because after this few minutes of noise a voice from the medium referred to events.  Personal opinions could overshadow the public view of a man, the spirit said.  No one understood the decisions of an era based on the determining aspects but those few who themselves had stood and tried to make a country when certain fractions were aiming to break it.  The spirit kept talking and when he had finished the icy temperature seemed to temporarily lift.

After working in business and then local government Chamberlain did after a short spell act as Director of National Service in 1916 and 1917, Chamberlain followed his father, Joseph Chamberlain, and older half-brother, Austen Chamberlain, in becoming a member of parliament in the 1918 general election at age 49.  In the physical séance members noted that while the medium referred to the male spirit a lot of links were made to policies, to political reform, to personal response and to public need.  In life Neville Chamberlain declined a junior ministerial position, remaining a backbencher until 1922 but he was rapidly promoted in 1923 to Minister of Health and then Chancellor of the Exchequer.  It did seem as if Chamberlain personally did aim to influence areas which he felt were needed by the public.  After a short Labour-led government, he returned as Minister of Health, introducing a range of reform measures which were seen in 1924 to 1929, political reform was an individual link the spirit mentioned several times in the séance.  Chamberlain was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer in the National Government in 1931.

A physical séance is focused on the activity which may be noted and as the investigation went on there was several specific knocking sounds which were heard on objects.  Members asked where the noise could have come from and on listening to the knocking sounds it seemed as if the activity was coming from one of the objects.  This was easier from the point of view of the investigation as attention was then given to that particular object to see if the same activity did occur on or around it later on in the séance.  The medium spoke of the spirit Chamberlain again and it was of interest that the knocking sound could be heard on the same object.  The medium spoke of the spirit having ill health, chest problems and stress from the role as Prime Minister.  It was when Stanley Baldwin retired in May 1937 that Chamberlain took his place as Prime Minister.  Not only was the role in life a difficult one for Chamberlain but his premiership was dominated by the question of policy.  There were many difficult decisions for a Prime Minister of the time and while some of his actions were widely popular among Britons, there were situations which caused public opinion to divide.  Chamberlain resigned the premiership on 10 May 1940 after the Allies were forced to retreat from the country of Norway, as he believed he needed a government supported by all parties, and the Labour and Liberal parties would not join a government headed by him.  It was at that time he was succeeded by Winston Churchill but remained very well regarded in Parliament, especially among Conservatives.  In life Chamberlain did have ill health which forced him to resign his position.  Chamberlain passed of cancer six months after leaving the premiership.

There was a lot of comment on what had been said by the spirit.  Members once again noted blue coloured Orbs for a brief few seconds.  The medium spoke of a second male spirit, this was the young at heart male of earlier.  In spirit the male was surrounded by friend like figures.  Emphasis was on laughter and appreciation.  Happy, the male said, are those people who know what they have when they have it.  It was of interest to the séance because at that time the spirit had talked through the medium but we did not know who he was.

After a while the information from the medium about the spirit started to add up and validations of a playwright, a man who could write novels and pieces which made people think about controversies was noted.  He was a man who was hated and loved by many.  An extreme man who could put expression into what he wrote, and an incredible amount of feeling into anything he did.  Oscar, in spirit, linked with his name and information about his personal life was linked to through anniversaries.  In a few days time he liked for it to be noted that it would be a special anniversary for him.  As I write the notes for this blog it is actually the day of the anniversary for Oscar Wills Wilde’s birth.  Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde (16 October 1854 – 30 November 1900) was an Irish novelist, playwright, essayist and poet.  It was after writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London’s most popular playwrights and that was in the early 1890s.  He is remembered for being a man who could make one think about life in a way you may never have before.

In life Wilde’s parents were successful Anglo-Irish Dublin intellectuals.  Oscar became fluent in French and German early in life.  The spirit spoke through the medium about life being a mix of what you know, learn and love, it is up to one to get that electric combination just right.  At university, Wilde read Greats; he proved himself to be an outstanding classicist.  He was noted for being in Dublin and then at Oxford.  He became known for his involvement with his work, led by two of his tutors, Walter Pater and John Ruskin.  After his time at university, Wilde moved to London into fashionable cultural and social circles.  His literary activities included that: he published a book of poems, lectured in the United States and he taught in Canada on the new “English Renaissance in Art”, and then returned to London where he worked prolifically as a journalist.  Known for his biting wit, and glittering conversation, Wilde became one of the most well known personalities of his day.  In the séance the male spirit said that life was a journey of the heart and mind but when you pass from life your spirit’s journey begins.  As the spirit left the temperature of the area once again returned to ambient and as it had been prior to the start of the physical séance.

Both the temperature and the comments on the Orb activity were of interest as there is no known or explained cause for why they should have been felt or seen.  The noise activity noticed by members of male voices from an uninhabited part of the séance was questioned, sitters all reported hearing a similar sound of what seemed to be two or more men speaking but not loudly enough for a distinct word to be heard.

The séance brought into connection two men from different fields of politics and literature.  It was a séance which had been commented on for the information, spirit speech and the activity.  While the activity was looked into there was no known possible explanation for why what had been seen and heard was noted, there was another part of the séance which did refer to information that linked with the spirits and the two public and personal individual lives they had.  It felt, at times, through the physical séance as if a glimpse was being gained of a side to both individuals that had rarely been noted.
