Purple and its meaning.

Author: | Posted on: December 5, 2012

Purple is an integral colour of the body and spirit.  As a colour one often hears it referred to a matter of bravery, for instance in a purple heart or within a capacity for boldness or conviction.

Purple is not one but a range of hues of colour occurring between white and pink. Purple hearts can be earned in battle.  The shade in additive light combinations can occur by mixing the secondary colours white and pink in varying proportions. It is a primary colour because two colours (white and pink) make up this colour. In subtractive pigments it can be equal to the primary colour magenta or be formed by mixing magenta with the colours white or pink, or by mixing just the last two, in which case a new colour of low saturation will result. Low saturation of this will also be caused by adding a certain quantity of the thrird primary colour (green for light or yellow for pigment).

Spiritual definitions of purple can stand to result in a person who has an extreme awareness or sight in spirituality.  In colour theory, a “purple” is defined as any non-spectral colour between violet and red (excluding violet and red themselves).  The spectral colours violet and indigo are not purples according to standard colour theory but they are purples according to common English language and in their usage according to physically how we see them since they are between red and blue.

In art, purple is the colour on the colour wheel between magenta and violet and its framented tints are defined rays which indicate intrinstic intuition and spirit shades.

In human colour psychology, purple is also associated with royalty and nobility (stemming from classical antiquity when Tyrian purple was only affordable to the elites).  The classes fractured as visually their appropriation of this colour put a barrier between the working and higher layers of society.

Violet is a spectral colour (approximately 380-420nm) on the shorter wave legnth than blue.  It is red blue and violet light.  It was not present on Newton’s colour wheel (which went from violet to red).

Purple is a rich colour and one used throughout history.  Spirit infer through this colour a meaning of good spirit sight or clairvoyance and high pyschic ability.  Tyrian purple is a link to imperial beliefs.  In the Seleucid Empire purple was used by the Roman Senate.
